Volvo is introducing its first electric Cross Country model, the EX30 Cross Country, designed to handle challenging winter conditions with all-terrain features. The new variant builds on the existing EX30 electric SUV with off-road enhancements and a rugged design, the Swedish automaker said.

The EX30 Cross Country features the same dual-motor all-wheel-drive system as the standard EX30, producing 422 horsepower and 400 pound-feet of torque. It is powered by a 64.0-kWh battery pack, which Volvo estimates will deliver a range of 264 miles per charge. When using a DC fast charger, the vehicle can recharge from 10% to 80% in about 26 minutes.

While Volvo has traditionally reserved the Cross Country nameplate for its station wagons, the EX30 Cross Country brings the designation to its growing electric lineup. The model includes a 0.7-inch ride height increase, front and rear skid plates, and flared fenders for a more rugged appearance. Customers can opt for exclusive 18-inch wheels with all-terrain tires.

The design incorporates Scandinavian elements, including a topographic etching of the Kebnekaise mountain range on the front panel and granite-inspired door panels. "Volvo wants customers to think of the EX30 Cross Country as an experience rather than just an SUV," the company said, noting that buyers will have access to a “Cross Country Experience” package with accessories such as a roof basket, mud flaps, and rental opportunities for a cabin in Swedish Lapland.

U.S. sales of the EX30 Cross Country are expected to begin later this year. The vehicle was initially manufactured in Zhangjiakou, China, but production of U.S.-bound EX30 models has since moved to Volvo's plant in Ghent, Belgium, which could mitigate potential tariff concerns.

Volvo has not disclosed pricing for the EX30 Cross Country, but industry estimates suggest it will be priced above the EX30 Twin Motor Performance trim, which starts at $46,195.

Sounds like a perfect choice for adventure lovers! With its rugged design and solid performance specs, it’s built for all-terrrain driving. I’m excited to see it hit the U.S. later this year. Pricing above the EX30 Twin Motor Performance trim, starting at $46,195, seems fair. Appreciate you post

How do you think the EX30 Cross Country will compare to other rugged EVs like the Rivian R1S or Subaru Solterra in terms of off-road capability and winter performance?
